Prep for Set
You've been booked on a production. Now it's time to get ready for set!
Once you have been booked on a production, you will receive a check-in message with all the information you need about the shoot, including your call time, the exact filming location and what to do when you arrive.
Agents will send you this information as early as possible, but it may not be until the day before the shoot. Keep an eye on your messages and be sure to respond to the check-in message as soon as possible to let the agent know you have received and read the information and will be working as expected.
Your call time is the time you're required to arrive on set, confirmed in your check-in message before the shoot.
The initial call time (when you need to arrive on set) included in earlier messages may change, as filming schedules change often. Your check-in message will include your final call time, so be sure to read the information carefully.
You are responsible for knowing your call time and arriving to set on time. It’s a good idea to plan your route to the filming location or pick-up point the night before and to allow yourself plenty of time in case of delays.
During the booking process, the agent will usually ask you to confirm how you will travel to set (e.g., driving, public transport or production-arranged pick-up from a designated spot, if available).
Your check-in message will also include details of anything you need to bring to set, such as a particular set of clothing, and any hair or makeup instructions (this may also have been discussed if you attended a fitting). If you have not received specific make-up instructions, arrive makeup free with your hair down.
The message will also confirm whether food will be provided or if you need to bring food (or money to buy food) with you. If food is not provided, you’ll typically receive a meal allowance when you’re paid. Regardless, it’s a good idea to pack water and snacks.
It’s also a good idea to pack a book or something to do between takes (for confidentiality reasons, phones and laptops generally aren’t permitted on set, so you’ll be asked to hand them over for safekeeping when you arrive). When you’re all packed, set your alarm and get a good night’s sleep – it might be a long day!
